Kmart - Day 1

Ok - I lied.  I said I wouldn't shop today.  Well, we had our Easter festivities Saturday rather than today.  After a long family nap, we decided to do some window shopping that happened to be near Kmart so I did a first run.

I confirm that coupons are doubling up to $2 (so $4 off).  I used my shopper card and only bought 5 items (as per the rules).  I will say I was disappointed.  Our Kmart no longer carries the dog food we use (Rachael Ray Nutrish) and I had purchased a bunch of coupons to stock up during this sale.  Several other things we use that I had great coupons for were out of stock.  I was hoping to take advantage of the P&G prepaid mastercard deal by buying some Pampers night time diapers - our Kmart doesn't carry them.

I do have some good news for you though. 

• Gillette Body Wash (big ones) are on sale for $4 each.  If you have the P&G for April, you should have a $2/1 coupon so this would be free
• Pantene shampoo/conditioner is $4.19 each.  I had $2/1 coupons from Vocalpoint so I got two for $.40
• The 24 ct Tylenol products are just over $4.  I had $2/1 coupons from the doctors office so that meant cheap tylenol.
• Diapers are $9.99/pack for the Huggies and Pampers I saw (I may have missed something for some types)

I doubt I'll go back unless I am in town anyway since it is a bit of a drive, however, if you are close to one, there are many good deals to be had.  I was just a bit shocked that the prices are higher overall than at CVS or Rite Aid where I normally shop.  You may find differences since markets vary.  Oh - I also do tend to hold grudges against stores when I am upset about policies and such and I keep thinking about the bad coupon they put out.....   however, taking advantage of the double coupons and not getting other stuff is sort of a way of "sticking it to them......"  I know - very mature!  Haha!

Kmart Super Double Start Tomorrow

Kmart Super Doubles begins in the morning.  I won't be shopping tomorrow - it's EASTER!  Head over to Rediscovering Domesticity for more on this glorious holiday.

I promised some deal match-ups and coupon match-ups.  First of all, make sure you get your Kmart Rewards card (you can do this at customer service) or none of your coupons will double.  Secondly, pull out the high-dollar coupons you have or print some today (see links below).  Lastly, take this list of scenarios and start generating  a plan.

Remember:

• prices vary by region - these prices listed may not be exactly the prices in your store but they should be somewhat close
• you can only double 5 coupons per day - the rewards card is in place to keep track of how many you use
• you can shop each day this week to stock up on a few great freebies and to save on things you use every day
• there are some great deals to be had even without doubling coupons - especially with P&G products that generate a $10 prepaid mastercard (save your receipts to submit for the $100 in P&G coupons once you spend $50 in P&G products - BEFORE coupons).
• there is still a $10/$20 coupon floating around - Kmart issued this coupon on their website but only intended it for certain markets. Due to their own error, use of that coupon in areas other than intended markets is being deemed as fraud (despite Kmart's own mistake).  Most people have not been able to use these.  Most have been made to feel like criminals for Kmart's own mistake.  I don't recommend using this coupon should you find it unless you live in one of those small select markets.

Kmart Bummer - Pulled Coupon

Well, I love the super doubles that Kmart has, but other than that, I am not a fan of Kmart or Sears. Last fall, Sears put out a clothing coupon. The company intended it for a select audience but didn't word the coupon appropriately so the coupon allowed anyone to use it. Sears wasn't happy, and without any warning, pulled the coupon. I went to use mine and was made to feel like a criminal for using a coupon that was pulled (it was meant to be just for certain magazine subscribers, but the magazine online version had no way to limit the coupon). My store hadn't received any information from Sears other than to not accept the coupon.

Now we have the same situation again. The $10/$20 Kmart coupon (same company) that was released yesterday appears to have been pulled. The coupon was available through the regular Kmart homepage. The thinking so far is that it was intended for certain markets. Well, why did Kmart issue a coupon stating "good at ANY Kmart location?"

My feeling is that there are PLENTY of ways to limit coupon use - coupons can be made so there are print limits per computer and per coupon. They can be made with all individual bar codes. They can be internet coupons only or circular coupons only - whatever the store decides. The coupon can say what specific markets are intended. The company can restrict coupons any way they wish.

I don't understand why Sears/Kmart is lazy about issuing their coupons (the Kmart coupon in question was issued as a pdf file with no print limits just the limit of one coupon per transaction) and then pulling the coupons as soon as they are used. If Kmart/Sears is concerned about keeping/gaining customers, they really need to get their act together and do coupons correctly rather than randomly pulling coupons because of their laziness in creating them.

Just my two cents. After the Sears coupon incidence, I complained to the company. I got a 20% off coupon in the mail (with TONS of restrictions) that I ended up unable to use - too many restrictions.

If I hear any other chatter, I will be sure to update. I am disappointed. This coupon had such a long expiration date. I had such plans for it!

GREAT Kmart Coupon!

Kmart Super Double coupons are creeping up on us!  It's time to prepare by clipping those coupons!  I want to give you some coupons to go ahead and grab now while you can.

I posted previously about the exciting news that Kmart Super Doubles are back!  Make sure you sign up for their Shop Your Way Rewards card BEFORE shopping!  That is what the SYWR mention in the email is about.  The basic rules are as follows:

Now, the 5 coupon per day limit is a bit limiting.  In the past, many many stores did not enforce this rule and the computers were not programmed to stop doubling at 5.  Some select cashiers held to that rule while others did not.  I cannot say if this will be the case again or not.  It's been many months, so the computers may have been fixed to only allow 5 doubles.

Also, Kmart has released a list of all the participating stores!  Woot!  Click through to Hip to Save for the list to see if your store is participating.

Now, we have plenty of time to prepare for this event!  I hope to spend some time at Kmart collecting prices and deals before the big event.  Our area tends to have much higher prices than the big city areas where I normally find shopping scenarios.

Not every Kmart participates in super doubles events.  Click through to either email or call Kmart to see if stores in your area are participating.

As April approaches, start saving up your high dollar coupons.  I generally start making a pack of $1.50 coupons to $2 coupons.  Right before the big event, I pull the coupons I will use and put them in baseball card holders in a special Kmart section of my binder (come back tomorrow to see the great mystery of my coupon binder in great detail).  I find the items that I use a lot that I can really save on (dog food is the main one - $2 Rachael Ray coupons just came out so that makes $4 savings) and then I find the items that I can get free or for mere pennies with doubled coupons.

What a day!  It's not even 3pm yet and I am ready for bed.  Little Man and I went in for my thyroid checkup this morning (had a great visit - everything is perfect) then decided to putter around the mall since the little one fell asleep.  What an amazing day for deals.

KMART!
I had heard the rumors of 90% off holiday decor, but I hadn't made the trek out myself.  I figured at this point, all the good stuff would be gone so it would be a wasted trip. Well, Little Man fell asleep on the ride home from the doctor, so I turned around and we went to the mall.  Here I am, all 4 foot 11 inches of me with a big prego belly, pushing a stroller with an oversized carrier and toddler in it while pulling a shopping cart all around the store.  Oh, the looks and comments.....

Our KMart had an entire room of 90% clearance items.  I scored a 6.5 foot pre-lit Christmas tree - originally $200 for just $20.  I also got several boxes of ornaments (to fill in the gaps for our new and larger tree) for just $.59 per box as well as a bag of pinecone potpourri for just $.29!

General Clearance, Coupons, and Deals
Now for the randomness.  Once Little Man woke up, I loaded the tree in the car and went back in to wander the mall.  Just about every store had great clearance.  Old Navy currently has an extra 75% off about half of its inventory.  Most stores had at least 50% off deals.  Now is a great time to shop for next winter!

Print your own Buy One Get One FREE box of Sunbelt granola or fruit bars!

Proctor and Gamble have "Kits" on sale from $50 to just $12.50.  When you buy $50 worth, you get free shipping.  Not a to-die-for deal, but great for products you normally use.  These also would make great gifts.

Whew!  What a whirlwind day!  We got a call last night from good friends from college who live quite far away. It turns out they are somewhat close and are driving to our house as we speak!  We haven't seen them in at least 4 years!  Woohoo!  They'll be here for dinner through breakfast tomorrow morning. 

It seems as though my morning sickness has been in high gear these past couple weeks and couple that with a toddler and a non-functioning washing machine and, well, you have a royal disaster as a house.  I've spent the past two days getting laundry caught up so it isn't literally hanging everywhere.  I've started finding the floor in most rooms!

Here are a few quick deals I found today that may interest you.  I have one question for all of you first though - have you had any problem finding the "free after rebate" items at your local Rite Aid?  I haven't found the higher dollar ones in several months now and I asked a chashier today.  I was searching specifically for the Benevia (a $2 moneymaker with coupon).  She said they searched all morning and realized that none came on the truck.  Hmm....  how can that be - each time there is a rebate offer....  even the hangtag is gone and it was there just a week or so ago.

KMart Double Rumors, Organic Coupons, and More

Well, the blogosphere has been abuzz with rumors about KMart possibly doubling coupons up to $2 (limit 5) until December 19th for those with a new KMart rewards card. I will be running some errands today and plan to stop by KMart, so I will let you know if this deal works for me. Hip to Save and Money Saving Mom have some details on their blogs.

• Many local ads did not mention doubles even though they are participating plus many employees have no idea until after the event has started.  I emailed KMart and inquired and learned that mine IS participating.
• Some stores are not sticking to the past 10-coupon limit.  Try it at your store and see!

Deals may be a little less frequent than usual - I am embarking on the quest to find good and inexpensive glasses on the internet!   I will be sharing my search and my ordering process with all of you!  I just don't want to pay over $200 for frames and lenses (I'm nearly blind).  Keep your eyes peeled for those updates if you are in the market for glasses!  (Haha!  Hubby usually handles the really bad puns!)

• Starting Sunday, many K-Marts are offering Super Double coupons again!  This is one time I am happy they lied!  Previous statements from the store said they would not have super doubles the rest of this year.  I am excited!
• Check this HCW link for an incomplete list of participating stores.  If your store is not listed, that doesn't mean they are not participating.
• Check the K-Mart website to call or email about your particular store.  They have been very helpful for me in the past.
• Just a heads up - there are some reports of people being told that only P&G coupons are being doubled while others are being told nothing of the sort.  Leave a comment if you get any details about your particular store!
  

Air-Wick, Glade, and others on sale!

Thanks to A Coupon Chick for the heads up on savings for fall scents (or any scent you want)!  Walmart has AirWick i-Motion on rollback for $5.  Go to the AirWick website for some great coupons (in addition to the coupons from recent newspaper inserts).

K-Mart Trip!

Score! My total was initially $58. After coupons (and one small return), my total came to $11! Here's what I bought:

• 1 box Hefty garbage bags
• 2 boxes Ziplock (new environmental ones) sandwich bags
• 2 small packs of Infant Tylenol
• 2 Degree men's deodorant
• 1 Visene for contacts drops
• 1 big box Lipton tea bags
• 1 box Huggies wipes
• 1 bottle Flintstone vitamins
• 2 Oral B toothbrushes (I returned these after coupon snafu)

How did I manage the deal? I made sure my total was just above $50 (without any of the tempting home fragrance items since they aren't included in the coupon deal) to use the $5/$50 coupon that came in the Sunday insert. I gathered all the high dollar coupons I had and prioritized my needs. I made sure I had a few more than the 10 coupon limit just to make sure I had enough to reach my limit.

Where did I get these coupons? Most of them were printed from coupons.com. I got the Tylenol Q's from the doctor's office - there was a tearpad right at the sign-in clipboard! I signed up for some sort of Lipton freebie earlier this year and received this coupon in the mail. The Visene is from All You magazine and the Degree and Oral B were from newspaper inserts.

So, what was the snafu? There were rumors that BOGO free Q's doubled by making both items free. I was curious. We needed some manual toothbrushes for when our electric ones didn't work or we were traveling. I had a BOGO free Q. The problem? The Q didn't work at all. Why? I got the wrong toothbrushes! Rather than have them fish the Q out of the drawer after everything was paid for, I simply returned them and got $6 in cash handed to me.

Now, can YOU score a deal like this at K-Mart? You sure can! First make sure your K-Mart accepts printed coupons. Go to coupons.com. Print the coupons for items you need and print coupons that are high dollar value (not OVER $2 though). Clip your newspaper coupons. Pull out the high dollar coupons. Set aside a good hour to spend at K-Mart. Clip the $5/$50 Q from the circular (I found one in the store since I forgot to take mine).

Match the coupons with the smallest size item you can for the greatest savings. Remember the 10 coupon limit per day (not all stores enforce this). I keep a little notebook with me where I write down the cost of each item plus the expected savings. This way I can track when I am close to my desired dollar amount and can keep myself from impulse buys.

When you check out, hand over the $5/$50 coupon FIRST otherwise you will not get the savings. Then hand over the rest of the coupons. After checking out, double check your receipt. Fix any errors at customer service before you leave the store. I got a catalina coupon at checkout for ANOTHER $5/$50!

Now, get out there and SHOP! This should be the last super double event of the YEAR!

Secondly, I have heard back from K-Mart regarding the super doubles that are happening starting tomorrow (Sunday)! Here is the information that was sent to me. In regards to the coupon limit, many stores have been quite lenient with these in the past. Check Hip to Save for great scenarios!

The rules for this event are:

Super Double Manufacturer Coupons Up to $2.00 with purchase of $25 or
more in grocery & drugstore merchandise

Participating stores only. Amount of credit from doubling a coupon
cannot exceed the current retail price of a single item.  No cash or
in-store purchase credit will be awarded for any amount exceeding the
retail price of the item. Limit 1 coupon for each item purchased.  Only
1 coupon will be doubled per item.  You may only purchase 4 of the same
item using double coupons. Excludes Buy One, Get One offers,  Kmart
Savings coupons and Kmart Store coupons. Coupons do not apply to sales
tax.   Limit 10 coupons per customer per day. Offer excludes products
