CVS Shopping Basics

I have been procrastinating. It took me awhile to figure out how CVS shopping works. It has taken me a little while to figure out how to explain CVS shopping! Here's my attempt! It really isn't as difficult as it sounds - just try it and you'll see!

Basics

CVS has a rewards card called the Extra Care Card. By shopping using this card, you earn Extra Care Bucks, or ECB's. You earn 2% of your purchases each quarter back in ECB's plus one ECB per prescription you have filled ($2 ECB in promotion periods). Extra Care Bucks are bucks that can be spent in the store like cash. To get started with ECB's, there is an initial investment, but that investment grows as you shop smart and pair coupons with ECB deals.

Earning ECB's
  • Earn ECB's through normal shopping - 2% of your purchases are refunded each quarter as ECB's
  • Purchase specific items for extra ECB's
  • Fill prescriptions
Using ECB's
  • ECB's print out on the bottom of your receipt. They have an expiration date - make sure to not let them go to waste!
  • When checking out, use your ECB's like cash - just don't pay with more ECB's than the total - you won't get them back in change.
  • You can "roll" ECB's that are near expiration by using them on deals that net more ECB's.
  • Check your newspaper insert for details on ECB deals for the week. Pay attention to limits - if you purchase more than the limit, you will not get extra ECB's
