Why Save Money?

This seems like a stupid question - why save money?  Why work so hard to save a dollar here and there?  Is it really worth it?

Chew on this a bit:
1 Timothy 6:17-19 (New Living Translation)
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

I can't answer for you.  I can't tell you if saving little bits of money here and there is worth it for you.  I know for some, the effort just isn't worth the sacrifice in time with family.  I CAN tell you why I save money.

  1. We don't have a lot of surplus in the budget. By saving a little money here and there, we are able to do more as a family.
  2. I have the time to clip coupons and work out deals and travel to various stores.  I will say that it takes a LOT less time now (after the initial learning curve) than it did in the beginning.
  3. I believe we are stewards of the money God has given us.  I want to stretch the funds He gives us as far as I can without doing it at the expense of our family.
  4. I love to give things away and bless others.  By couponing and deal hunting, I often get many items super cheap or free that we don't need or won't use.  I am able to bless others in need by donating to local charities.  We don't have the finances to give tons of money to charities.  I can give through my time and my shopping.

Do you save money?  Why or why not?  How "hard-core" are you with saving money?

Thanks for stopping by my little blog. You have a lot of good stuff on here and we seem to share a lot of the same values. I am fairly new to couponing but am addicted now and cringe at the thought of what I wasted before now. Cute name for your blog too.

I try my best to save money. I've been couponing since last year. Initially, I thought it was really time consuming, but I kept at it, took breaks when I had to, and now I have my own way of doing it without having it interfere with my family time. I enjoy looking for deals, and although a lot of the stuff I get I may not use, I am happy to pass it on to my family. My parents are both unemployed at this time so I try my best to help by buying them stuff they need.
My husband, on the other hand, doesn't see the benefit of coupons. But, I find it funny that when we go shopping, he's always asking if I have any. I think every cent counts these days.
